The Youtube channel Zeste de science explores all aspects of scientific research, proving that even the most complicated scientific facts can be explained in less than 5 minutes, and that even the most seemingly trivial events of everyday life, if thoroughly studied, can contribute to the biggest technological advances.
Episode 25: Can we predict the behaviour of a crowd evacuating a room? To understand this phenomenon, scientists have created mathematical models for crowd motion. Crowd motion can be represented by a granular flow: each grain represents an individual, with its own movements and behaviour (similar to physical and psychological human behaviour). Crowd motion can also be represented by a liquid. Thanks to these models, scientists can reproduce various phenomena of crowd dynamics and better understand the mechanisms involved.
